Do you want to develop your leadership skills? Would you like to conduct a research project with a supervisor in your chosen field (while receiving a generous stipend to do so during some of the summer)? Would you like to travel overseas to research your project (pandemic travel restrictions permitting)?

If the answer is yes, have you considered becoming a Laidlaw Scholar?

Only 25 places are available on the Laidlaw Leadership and Research Programme, open to students who still have 2 summers left before graduating from the University.

The Laidlaw Leadership and Research Programme is an exciting programme that aims to equip students with the skills and values to become leaders in their chosen occupations beyond University.

As a Laidlaw Scholar, you would carry out two summer projects during the upcoming two summers (a six-week research project during the first summer and an extended five-week leadership in action project, which could be based on your year one research, or an international leadership experience during the second summer). You would have the opportunity to pursue and report on a research question with a research supervisor. This may be from a list of pre-advertised projects, or a project of your choosing within your chosen School. These research projects take place alongside a comprehensive leadership programme that runs across the academic year.

BENEFITS:

  • £5500 stipend to facilitate your research project and leadership development
  • £1200 travel fund across 2 years (Covid restrictions permitting)
  • A comprehensive leadership development programme
  • An insightful research experience
  • Part of a global network of scholars

An online briefing session is being held on Wednesday 3 November 2021 at 5.15pm. More information, and to sign up, can be found via this booking link.

Applications for the 2022 scholarships will open on 10 November 2021 and close at 12 noon on Friday 21 January 2022.
