Bike Lights and Cycle Safety – legal requirement to have lights!

As dark nights are longer it’s more important than ever to use bike lights from sunset to sunrise (not only in hours of darkness). We want to make this town as safe as possible to cycle and encourage all staff and students to cycle as part of their daily commute. However, there have been many reports over the past few weeks of people around town not using bike lights. This is dangerous for both cyclists and pedestrians and can scare or anger drivers. Everyone is required by law in the UK to have a front white light and rear red light switched on.

Transition St Andrews is selling bike lights every Tuesday of November (and potentially more Tuesdays after that) from 4:45-5:30 pm outside the Union. Alternatively, you can purchase lights from any bike store in town. Be safe, be seen!
