Participants wanted: The effects alcohol-induced blackouts have on attention, inhibition and memory

We are recruiting participants for our dissertation project that is on the effects alcohol-induced blackouts have on attention, inhibition, and memory over time (UTREC Approval Code: PS15928).

Abstract

Participants will be asked to first complete a questionnaire regarding their exposure to alcohol and blackouts, and background details. Data collected are anonymous. Participants then take part in 3 online behavioural tasks and 2 neural tasks. The study will take place at the School of Psychology & Neuroscience, St Mary’s Quad, South Street.

Participant eligibility 

We are looking for freshers (one year foundation programme, 1st years, direct entry 2nd years) or final year undergraduates (fourth years). The age range is between 18-24 years old. You are eligible to join if you are an abstinent/very occasional drinker, OR a drinker who have suffered at least one alcohol-induced blackout since the start of their first semester at university (if you’re a fresher), or within the past 12 months (if you’re a final year). You must also have normal or corrected-to-normal hearing and vision, and a basic understanding of English.
