UArctic: Student board representative wanted (28 February)

The University of the Arctic (UArctic) network are looking for a student representative to sit on their board. For 2022, they are preferably looking for a female student with an indigenous background. Student representatives sit on the board for a three-year term, and there is a time commitment of approximately 5 hours per month.

Deadline and Process

You need to submit a short applicaton, including a statement of interest (200-300 words).

We must have received completed applications by 1200 on 28 February. We will then nominate students for consideration by UArctic.

About UArctic:

The University of the Arctic (UArctic) is a network of universities, colleges, research institutes, and other organizations concerned with education and research in and about the North. UArctic builds and strengthens collective resources and infrastructures that enable member institutions to better serve their constituents and their regions.

The Board of UArctic is the highest governing body of UArctic and has general responsibility for UArctic’s development and for its main priorities.

In nominating and selecting members of the Board, efforts are made to ensure broad geographic, cultural and indigenous representation, as well as gender balance. In 2022, the Committee is looking preferably for a female representative with indigenous background.

Appointed for a three-year term a student representative on UArctic’s Board should be:

  • A registered student from a UArctic member institution (at the time of appointment);
  • In good academic standing, and preferably having participated in a UArctic activity (i.e. Circumpolar Studies; north2north mobility; student seminar, etc.);
  • Able to represent a variety of student interests connected to the North;
  • Able to make the time commitment necessary (approx. 5hrs/month); and be
  • Willing to maintain close communications with relevant student organizations.

There are three students serving on the UArctic board at any one time. During the three year term, you will have the opportunity to try all three student roles on the UArctic board.
