Support over the summer during Main Library closure from 16 May

Wednesday 11 May 2022

From Monday 16 May, the Main Library building will be closed, reopening September 2022.

Click and collect
The Libraries and Museums will continue to support you and you will be able to access the collections held in the Main Library, Martyrs and Walter Bower House Library through a Click and Collect service. On Library search, find the item you want and request it using the Click and Collect button, and it will be made available to pick up at St Mary’s College Library on South Street (opening hours 9am – 8.30pm, 7 days). There will continue to be items available to borrow directly from the site libraries in JF Allen and King James, and so a Click and Collect button will not appear for these.

You can request 5 items each day through Click and Collect, and borrowing limits have been increased.

After you have made a request, we will aim to have the items ready for you the next weekday, but this is dependent on demand. If you make a request on Friday, items should be ready Monday or Tuesday the next week. You will be emailed once the item is available for you at St Mary’s and we will keep it for you, ready to be collected, for 5 days.

Request a scan
You can also request a scan of a chapter of a book or journal article from the collections held in the Main Library, Martyrs and Walter Bower House. You will see a ‘Request a scan’ button next to available items on Library search. Scanned items are emailed directly to you.

Please be aware that the amount of content we can scan for you is restricted by copyright legislation (10% of a book, typically one chapter or one article in a journal issue).

Other services
St Mary’s College Library on South Street will be where you can access different services including picking up Click and Collect and print Inter-Library Loans, talking to Library and IT staff (the help point will be open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 5pm) and, upstairs in the King James Library, one of the places you can study. Printers and self-service borrow and return machines are available at St Mary’s.

Please contact us on email [email protected], chat or call if you have any questions or to discuss the different ways we can support you over the summer.
