If you are a doctoral student expecting to teach for the first time in semester one, note that all new postgraduate or external part-time teachers are required to complete mandatory courses from CEED before they can do any teaching. (If you won’t be teaching till semester 2, please wait and do the courses in December/January.)

First, you must register on the Mandatory training for postgraduates who teach programme, which enables you and your School to keep track of your completion status. Next, book the individual live workshop dates via the programme tab in your training record on PDMS. You can select any version of the workshops (eg Arts, Science); we cover the same core concepts in each, what differs are the specific examples.

The self-study courses can be accessed directly below using the links below. Full details of the mandatory courses and optional support available from CEED is available at: Support for Postgraduate Researchers who Teach.

New postgraduate teachers must complete:

  1. Self-directed Teaching Online: Next Steps in Design and Development – asynchronous (2 to 3 hours) [self-enrol, click the “Enrol” button]
  2. Self-directed Diversity in the Workplace – asynchronous (1 hour) – report any login difficulties to [email protected]
  3. Live workshop on Teaching at St Andrews: an introduction – synchronous (1.5 hours) – 25th August, 5th September, 8th September
  4. Live workshop on Assessment and academic misconduct: an introduction – synchronous (1.5 hours) – 26th August, 6th September, 9th September
  5. Live workshop on Student Services: supporting students and teachers – synchronous (1 hour) – 26th August, 5th September, 7th September

Anyone who has completed the previous, in-person workshops does not need to do the online workshops again. The in-person workshops previously delivered by CAPOD (last offered Jan 2020) are equivalent to the current workshops offered by CEED (beginning Aug 2020).
