As part of the Academic Staff Development programme, CEED and OSDS are running a selection of workshops that are open to our postgraduate research community. On Wednesday 19th October (2-4pm) we will be running our Theories of Learning workshop through Microsoft Teams. The content of this session is ideal for those of you interested in understanding more about learning and teaching and if you are interested in teaching yourself. We strongly encourage those new to teaching at the university to attend. This interactive session, delivered by CEED’s Educational Developer, will provide a brief introduction to various theories of how people learn (Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle, constructivism, cognitive science, threshold concepts), with a particular focus on what this means for how we approach our teaching.

Aims and objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

· Be aware of various theories of how people learn

· Have considered the implications of learning theory for teaching practice

· Have considered what changes they could make in their own teaching

If you are interested in attending, please visit Theories of Learning – PDMS – University of St Andrews to register for your place.

If you have any questions please contact Lauren Christie (Academic Staff Developer) on [email protected]. Please note that this workshop is open to research postgraduates only.
