Booking open – Copyright for teaching (8 Feb)

Lucy Hall
Wednesday 1 February 2023

The workshop will run online.

This workshop will provide an overview of the relevant laws, licences, and best practice, with guidance on what is and is not permitted in common teaching scenarios where copyright issues arise. It will also inform you of the various services provided by the university to help you teach while respecting the law and licencing agreements.

Questions to be addressed will include: What is copyright? How long does it last? Who owns the copyright of material I create for teaching? Which copyright licences does the University hold and how do I use them? Am I allowed to use copyright materials in my teaching? What are the copyright issues around captured content/lecture capture? How do I organise digital course-readings of copyright materials for my students? What are Creative Commons licences and how do they work? What are the copyright issues around teaching online?

What previous participants have said about Copyright for teaching and research:

“If you don’t know/understand what copyright is, go to this course.”

“I would recommend attending this course because it’s very useful to know about it, to be aware of your rights as a researcher/creator.”
