Wednesday 1 February 2023

You are invited to complete an online survey investigating how we help strangers.

This research project is being conducted as part of my, Shiqi Zhang, undergraduate degree in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of St Andrews.

You will first read a hypothetical scenario of meeting two strangers at a hospital. Then, you will be given options to help each of them and provide a brief written explanation for your decision. Lastly, you will complete a short questionnaire about your impression of each stranger, as well as providing some basic demographic information.

To take part, you must be at least 18 years old and a current student at the University of St Andrews. The study will take no longer than 25 minutes, and you will have the chance to win one of six £10 Amazon vouchers.

Content Warning: This study includes interacting with material that includes naming of an injury and portrayal of a distressed individual, which may cause mild distress to some. If you feel that you would be adversely affected by these subjects, please do not sign up to this study.
