Volunteering Opportunity – Peer Orienteers for Students with Disabilities (deadline 21 August)

Wednesday 9 August 2023

The Disability Team in Student Services are currently looking for volunteers for their Peer Orienteer scheme, which has been running for several years with the aim of providing friendly, informal guidance and support to entrant students who have declared a disability.

The scheme runs over the first four weeks of the new academic year, beginning in Orientation Week and ending at the end of Week 3. We require volunteers to be available and in St Andrews from Saturday 2 September – Sunday 1 October 2023.

The support can include helping students with:

  • campus orientation and navigation
  • and/or access to student platforms and student information

As a Peer Orienteer you will be approachable, organised and passionate about supporting students and will be able to:

  • answer questions, offer support and guidance either in person or via email
  • share your own experiences and knowledge of what it is like to be a student at St Andrews

This is a great opportunity to support fellow students, but also develop transferable skills such as leadership, communication and organisational skills. You will also be able to further your own understanding of the support resources and services available at St Andrews.

If you would like to get involved in this year’s scheme, please complete the personal details form by 5pm on Monday 21 August 2023. You will then be sent details of the training session to be held on 23 August, and matched with an entrant student who has requested peer orienteer support during the first few weeks of Semester 1.

We look forward to hearing from you.

The Disability Team,

Student Services
