Postgraduate research students are asked to take note of a few new or amended policies in effect from the 2023/24 academic year.

New policyPhD by Portfolio of Published Works (Student Route): This policy sets out the requirements and process for students wishing to submit a portfolio of publications and work prepared for publication in lieu of a traditional thesis.

New provision – an amendment to the Senate Regulations has made it possible for students to request an extension to their corrections period following their final examination (viva). This provision is available in exceptional circumstances, or if the student had been studying part-time prior to their viva taking place.

New process – all fieldwork requests from postgraduate research students now fall under the Travel and fieldwork policy and applications should be made via the associated online application. The Fieldwork for postgraduate research students policy and associated application form have been retired. Postgraduate research students continue to have access to a fieldwork bursary and specific guidance about fieldwork for PGR students can be found in the Student Handbook.
