Five years ago, Professor Dame Sally Mapstone, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of our university, said “In St Andrews, as in other UK higher education institutions, there are still fewer women the further you go up the academic tree. We are working to change that: through revisions to our promotions structures; through a new mentoring programme for senior women; through expansion of our childcare provision.”.

Also five years ago, Women in Science at St Andrews (WISSA) was founded. WISSA supports self-identified women and non-binary people in science by providing a platform to interact and network. WISSA’s emphasis is on creating a community comprised of all levels of research and teaching staff, from postdoc through to professor.

To celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the WISSA Network, WISSA hosts a panel discussion with senior women in science at the University that will:

– feature four remarkable female leaders at our university:

Prof. Clare Peddie – Vice-Principal Education (Proctor)

Prof. Ineke de Moortel – Master of the United College

Prof. Monique MacKenzie – Vice-Principal (Digital Education, Research and Environment),

Dr Rebekah Widdowfield – Vice-Principal (People and Diversity)

– celebrate the achievements of women in science at the University of St Andrews, and

– give the audience the opportunity to feed into ongoing practices.

The event is sponsored by WISSA and refreshments will be provided!
