LAST CHANCE: APPLY TO BE A VOLUNTEER RESEARCHER

Effie Assan
Wednesday 14 February 2024

This is the last chance to apply for the below position. The closing date is Wednesday 21st February 2024.

I am looking for 10-12 volunteer research assistants to assist with data collection on my doctoral research project.

The Project

This doctoral research project is investigating the long-term impact of COVID-19 on the psychological and cognitive wellbeing of older people living in the U.K.

Background Information

The first round of data collection was successfully completed last year from March-June 23 with the help of approximately ten 3rd and 4th year undergraduate volunteer researchers. Now, the study participants need to be re-interviewed for a 1-year follow-up. Data is collected via telephone-based surveys that are conducted with participants over the phone. Telephone based surveys take between 1 – 2hrs to complete, per participant.

The Role

As a volunteer research assistant, you will call participants to agree a day and time to collect data. At the agreed day and time, you will call the participant and conduct data collection with them (lasting up to two hours). Once data is collected, you will save the data on the designated folder on MS SharePoint. Full training will be provided, and volunteer research assistants can contact the main researcher (Effie Assan) at any time.

Time Commitment

In total, you should be able to commit to interviewing up to 20 participants, the equivalent of 2 participants (2-4hrs) per week. Total time commitment is expected to be approximately 40 hours over 17 weeks from March – June 2024. Training will commence in March 2024.

Benefits

This role would suit 3rd and 4th year students who would like to gain real experience collecting data as part of a psychological research project at doctoral level. Relevant expenses will be reimbursed, and full training will be provided.

How to Apply

To apply for this volunteer research assistant (1d) position, please email your CV to [email protected] along with a short statement in the body of the email (no more than 150 words) about yourself, and why you are interested in this position. PIf successful, you will be invited to an initial group discussion where you will find out more about the role and let the researcher know if you would like to take part. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 21st February 2024.

PLEASE NOTE – because this role requires working with older people, all volunteer researchers must have a valid, in-date PVG. You can still apply to this role without one, but you must be willing to apply for and secure, a valid PVG before you start.
