‘This is what I do’…talking about your research

Trish Strzelecka
Wednesday 10 April 2024

Can you capture what your research is about, ‘translating’ where necessary, in a way that engages people who might not share your background? In this workshop you will get a chance to hone this skill. You will learn to articulate your research succinctly without dumbing it down or making it too technical. And in doing so you will clarify (to others and perhaps to yourself as well) what it is that you do – and why it matters.

What previous participants have said about (the in-person version of) this course:

  • “Very helpful if you are thinking of tweeting or blogging about your research, or if your academic writing is too ‘wordy’.”
  • “It is very useful to learn to communicate the complex research in a simple/concise manner.”
  • “I like Mimo’s workshops, they teach you a lot of skills & make you think differently about how to present & write your research clearly.”
  • “Mimo makes the whole process very painless, and works with your specific needs and ways of thinking.”

By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

  • work with different templates for communicating research
  • present their research succinctly to a heterogeneous audience
  • adjust information, focus, detail and vocabulary to different audiences.
