What does it mean to have access to healthcare? What things contribute to whether someone can be said to have access to healthcare? Can a healthcare service truly be for those it aims to serve without adequate access for all?

Questions like these are the focus of “Scotland’s NHS? A Workshop on Healthcare Accessibility.” This one-day, interdisciplinary symposium will feature presentations from and ample discussion with the following scholars on the concept of accessibility in healthcare:

  • Dr Sandhya Duggal (Lecturer in Medical Sociology & Communication Skills, School of Medicine, St Andrews)
  • Dr Jodie Russell (Teaching Fellow, School of Philosophy, Edinburgh)
  • Dr Sarah Bowers (Clinical Research Fellow, School of Medicine, St Andrews; Palliative Medicine & General Internal Medicine Registrar, NHS Tayside)
  • Dr Gavin Miller, (Reader in Contemporary Literature & Medical Humanities, School of Critical Studies, Glasgow)

All are invited to join us! The workshop will run from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Senior Common Room, St Mary’s College, University of St Andrews, St Andrews KY16 9JU.

Lunch will be provided and travel bursaries are available. Please express interest at tinyurl.com/scotlandsnhs as space is limited. For questions, please contact Aaron Davis ([email protected]).
