Applications are open for Honours or Masters students to participate in the International University for Intercultural Leadership in Turkey from 15-27 July. This programme is led by the NGO Project Aladdin and Bahçeşehir University, supported by UNESCO. This year’s theme will be “Inclusive Sustainability: Building climate resilience and promoting women empowerment and social justice.”

This opportunity is open to one St Andrews student who must be either:

  • An undergraduate who will be studying Honours level modules in 2024-2025.
  • A postgraduate taught student who will be registered throughout July 2024.

An application form is available on the summer opportunities webpage. The deadline for applications is 0900 on Monday 3 June.

The programme takes place in Istanbul and Giresun, Republic of Türkiye. During this year’s two-week program, the students will be engaging in an in-depth exploration of the social aspects of sustainable development, with a particular focus on climate resilience and the crucial role of women in local communities. UNESCO will introduce students to its “Toolkit for Intercultural Dialogue”. Students will discover Turkey’s rich multicultural heritage through cultural activities. Previous St Andrews attendees have written articles on the Global Office blog.

The selected participant will receive £600 from the University, as a contribution towards travel costs. The IUIIL programme offers accommodation, meal, tuition and events. If selected, you will need to cover your travel expenses to/from Istanbul; any visa costs and any personal expenses. You will also need to contribute to an IUIL project, which will be finalised in October.
