The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme 2025 is currently open for applications. Since 1987, the JET programme has sent over 11,000 UK graduates to live and work in Japan. Graduates can apply to be Assistant Language Teachers in schools in Japan. This role includes helping with classes, preparing materials and assisting with extra-curricular activities. The JET programme also offers opportunities for graduates interested in sports coaching, and CIR positions for those with a high level of Japanese language skills. JET programme contracts are offered for 1 year and can be extended for up to 4 years.

Graduates from over 50 countries participate in JET, and further information is available from local Embassies or via specific pages for citizens of a certain country. Programme deadlines are 8 November (JET UK programme and JET Australia programme), 14 November (JET Programme Canada), 15 November (JET Program USA) and 6 December (JET Ireland).

The JET programme has a strong alumni association, and several University employees have previously worked for the JET programme.
