Jeeves Lecture 2025 (25 Apr): Prof. Gaia Scerif – The interplay between attention, memory and learning: Insights from developmental cognitive neuroscience
The School of Psychology & Neuroscience is pleased to announce the 2025 Jeeves Lecture, an annual event established in honour of Emeritus Professor Malcolm Jeeves (CBE, Hon DSc (Edin), FPRSE), founder of the School of Psychology & Neuroscience and former President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. The Jeeves Lecture celebrates excellence in psychology and neuroscience, bringing distinguished scholars to share their work with staff, students and the wider public. The lecture will be chaired by our Principal Professor Dame Sally Mapstone.

This year, we are honoured to welcome Professor Gaia Scerif, Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, as our distinguished speaker. Her research explores the development of attentional control and its neural underpinnings, with a particular focus on how attentional difficulties affect learning. Professor Scerif works closely with neurodivergent communities and individuals with developmental conditions such as fragile X syndrome, Williams syndrome, Down syndrome and ADHD. Her work has made substantial contributions to both fundamental neuroscience and the lives of those affected by these conditions.
The title of Professor Scerif’s lecture is The interplay between attention, memory and learning: Insights from developmental cognitive neuroscience.
