Participants wanted: Individual differences and emotional responses to music
This study is being conducted as part of my, Harriet Edwards, PhD in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of St Andrews.
We invite you to participate in a research project where you will be asked to take part in two experiments which will investigate your emotional responses to music. The first will ask you to listen to a series of chord progressions and to rate your emotional response to the final chord, as well as the level of tension and how expected or unexpected the final chord is. The second will ask you to categorise a series of images of faces as ‘positive’ or ‘negative’, whilst listening to happy or sad music. You will also be asked to complete the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) and a musicianship questionnaire, as well as indicating your initial mood and mood in response to two musical excerpts. This will take place in Room 1.34 in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience. At the end of the study you will be debriefed and we anticipate it will take a maximum of 1 hour to complete. You will be credited with £5 for taking part in the study.
