STARS seeking more Mentors/Reviewers
The St Andrews Recognition Scheme (STARS) is seeking colleagues who hold a category of HEA Fellowship to join the scheme as Mentors and/or Reviewers, to support others who are working towards a category of Fellowship.
STARS is an AdvanceHE‑accredited scheme that provides structured support for colleagues preparing a claim for recognition using the Professional Standards Framework 2023. Alongside other forms of support, each participant is assigned a Mentor who offers guidance throughout the application process, and applications are assessed by trained internal Reviewers.
Acting as a Mentor or Reviewer is a valuable way to contribute to colleagues’ career development and to foster growth in teaching and learning across Higher Education. Engagement with STARS may also contribute evidence for the service promotion criteria or support future HEA Senior Fellow applications.
We are particularly looking for new Reviewers to support our Semester 2 panel. Reviewing will take place between weeks 6–8, with the panel meeting in week 9.
We also warmly welcome new Mentors to support our next cohort, who will begin their STARS journey in April and submit their fellowship applications in week 6 of Semester 1, 2026/2027.
- Mentors are asked to support at least two colleagues per academic year.
- Reviewers are asked to review up to four Fellowship applications (or equivalent) for each Recognition Panel.
- You must already hold a category of HEA Fellowship to take part.
Please fill in the Mentor-Reviewer expression of interest form to start your journey to supporting our STARS!
New Mentors and Reviewers must undertake induction training for the role, plus one benchmarking training. Use this link to view and book on this semester’s training.
