This study is being conducted as part of my senior honours dissertation in the School of Computer Science at the University of St Andrews.

You have been invited to participate in a research project titled ‘Narrative Visualisation for Communicating Cancer Data’. The study explores how different narrative visual formats affect the way people understand and engage with cancer related information. The aim is of this study to find out which types of visual formats are more engaging and easier to understand for a general audience.

Scrollytelling is a highly interactive, novel form of narrative visualisation which combines text, images, animations, and interactive graphics to tell stories with data. I have developed a scrollytelling article which you will be asked to explore to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

It will take around 15 minutes in total; ~7 minutes to read through the scrollytelling article and ~7 minutes to answer the questions in the survey.

If you are interested, please access the survey via this link. You will then be given a Participant Information Sheet that further details the research and be provided with the researcher’s contact details to have the opportunity to ask questions. Finally, you will be asked whether you consent to participate before starting the survey.

If you have any questions before starting the survey, please contact the researchers:
