RACE2 Committee Descriptions 2026-27
Head of Safety (x2): The Head of Safety is responsible for overseeing all safety aspects of the Race2 event across both the UK and continental Europe. This includes managing safety teams based in St Andrews and on the continent, developing comprehensive risk assessments, and ensuring effective communication and swift responses to any incidents that arise during the race. The role involves coordinating shift scheduling, addressing racer safety concerns in real time, and potentially recruiting multilingual volunteers to support communication across different countries. You will also be expected to work closely with Coordinators and Union staff before and during the race to establish effective safety procedures for all involved. It requires strong leadership, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to think clearly and act quickly under pressure to ensure the safety of all participants throughout the event.
IT Officers (x2): The IT Officers are responsible for managing the technical side of Race2, including the website and related databases. They set up the phones before the race, design, develop and refine the tracking application and fundraising integration with the page, and help guide the safety team through the safety dashboard. There will be the opportunity to recruit Junior IT officers to support the website development. Experience in coding or computer science required.
Social and Publicity Officers (x2): The Social and Publicity officers are responsible for promoting Race2 and creating dynamic events on top of the main race. This includes managing the Race2 Instagram and Facebook accounts, posting about key events, racer fundraising, and the race itself. During the race, you’ll repost racer content, run interactive stories, and celebrate finishers. You’ll also lead in-person publicity through organising postering, contacting radio and news stations, and outreach for events like the Freshers Fayre and Launch Night. Creativity is encouraged, with campaigns like Racer Spotlights and other engaging ideas to boost visibility. You will also work with the Coordinators to plan events to market Race2 and celebrate the event before and after it happens. This includes racer and committee socials as well as the all-important racer party after the event. This role suits someone confident, creative, and organised, with a flair for communication and getting people excited about Race2.
Sponsorship (possibly x2): A Sponsorship and Outreach Officer are responsible for persuading businesses to sponsor Race2, whether it is with prizes or things to go inside the racer pack – any donation is welcome! This year we are expanding the role to consider both local sponsors as well as larger national brands that may be interested in supporting the race. For this role, you will be required to start working with the Coordinators over summer on a plan to get sponsors as well as start emailing sponsors. We are looking for organised, positive, and outgoing people for this role!
Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for taking minutes at committee meetings, answering emails and sending out regular pre-race communications to the racers to make sure they’re prepared and up to date with race progress.
Fundraising: The Fundraising Officer is responsible for organising fundraisers and brainstorming dynamic fundraising ideas that will ultimately lead to Race2 raising as much money as possible. They and the General Committee Fundraising Officer are responsible for the online platform for racers’ fundraising page and for creating a guide on how to use the fundraising system which gives racers advice on how they can best reach the total. They are also responsible for encouraging racers to meet their fundraising goal as effectively as possible.
Finance: The Finance Officer is responsible for managing Race2’s books. This includes spending money on prizes, racer packs, hostels etc. The role requires working in coordination with both the Fundraising Officer and the Charities Campaign Treasurer to oversee the budget and manage the fundraising totals after the race.
