Learning and Writing Centre Tutor Recruitment
Role: Academic and Study Skills Tutor
Hours: Up to 6 per week (variable)
Pay: University tutor rate
We’re looking for postgraduate research (PhD/DProf) students to join our friendly tutor team at the Learning and Writing Centre.
You’ll work mainly 1:1 with undergraduates and taught postgraduates, helping them master essential academic skills:
• Essay research and planning
• Note making and time management
• Lab reports
• Citing and referencing
• Revision techniques
• Reading for comprehension
At your discretion, you may also support fellow PhD students with research management strategies and time management. There may also be opportunities to deliver academic skills workshops.
What we’re looking for:
Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Experience of teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or facilitating learning.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A friendly, approachable and responsive manner.
- The ability to work effectively with a diverse range of students and an understanding of different approaches to learning and teaching.
- The ability to provide constructive and supportive feedback.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of study skills, academic literacies, or student learning development.
- Experience of providing one-to-one learning support.
Requirements:
Must have completed essential postgraduate teaching training, or be willing to register at the next opportunity.
